DESCRIPTION: As a racing boat, the Henderson 30 is unmatched, and BUZZ OFF is a superbly well equipped racing sled. The sail plan allows total control in all conditions. The 1250 sf. masthead asymmetrical spinnaker, flying off an articulating bow pole, provides blistering downwind speed. The 650 sf. of upwind sail area and minimum wetted surface ensures light air performance often missed in sport boats. The patented Variable Aspect Rudder Assembly allows infinite adjustments in balance, control and rudder position, while the deep bulb keel and light carbon fiber mast minimize pitching. The interior has a 'V' berth, two full size main bunks with stowage beneath and two full size quarter berths. Innovations include the lifting keel and the removable 'V' hatch for manual stepping of the mast, allowing easy trailering and fast launching. The hull, deck and interior components are constructed using unidirectional, biaxial and triaxial glass laid up using vinylester resin over Divinycell and Klegecell cores. The interior components are bonded into the hull while it is in its mold, to ensure alignment. The mast step, main bulkhead, keel truck and engine enclosure are molded in one part adding tremendous strength. The other interior surfaces are hand faired and gelcoat finished, making her bright and easy to clean. The keel is cast with lead over a stainless steel structure. Each keel is custom fitted in the boat, epoxy coated and faired to a 400 grit finish.
Sails/Rig: The double spreader carbon mast reduces pitching, as does the high tech, lightweight running rigging and carbon bow pole. The backstays and runners are led under-deck to keep the cockpit uncluttered. Hardware is top quality Harken, Lewmar and Spinlock, and is positioned to optimize racing efficiency. 18 racing sails including 7 spinnakers, 7 jibs and 3 mains, several new in 2012.
PROPULSION: The Contained Retractable Outboard is in the center of the boat for optimum weight distribution, it is a self contained unit that lowers the 9.9 hp Suzuki outboard behind the keel. Electric start, Spinlock remote throttle and permanently installed gas tank allow the system to operate like an inboard engine. When ready to sail, pull up the engine and the hull is automatically sealed so there's no drag!
Electronics/Electrical: Full B&G instrumentation (wind speed/direction, log, compass, depth, speed) Garmin 541 GPS/plotter, ICOM VHF, solar panels w/ controller, inverter/charger and 3 Group 27 deep cycle batteries, wired for ICOM SSB radio.
Extra Equipment: Custom trailer, custom full boat cover, gimbaled stove, fresh water bladder and Pacific racing safety equipment, spare sheets, rudder, batons and parts, hand and power winches to lift the keel.
